Transponder FAQs

How do I install my transponder?

Properly installing the E-ZPass transponder in your vehicle is easy and essential.

HOW TO INSTALL YOUR INTERIOR E-ZPASS TRANSPONDER

  1. Sit inside your vehicle facing forward. Select a location behind and to the right of the rearview mirror. The spot should be at least 4” below the vehicle’s frame and should be clean and dry.
  2. Do not remove the adhesive fasteners from the back of the transponder. Simply peel off the plastic backing to reveal the sticky surface of the fasteners.
  3. With the E-ZPass logo facing you with the arrows pointing up, right side up, affix the entire transponder assembly to the selected spot on the inside of your windshield.
  4. Press the entire transponder assembly firmly in place and hold for one to two seconds. The installation process is now complete.

HOW TO INSTALL YOUR EXTERIOR LICENSE PLATE MOUNT E-ZPASS TRANSPONDER

  1. Identify the flat side of your E-ZPass transponder. It will have the sticker with RITBA Logo. This side should face inward to your vehicle.
  2. Fasten your transponder to the front license plate using the existing top mounting bolts and the knock-out holes on your transponder. This should be mounted using the top section of your license plate, not the bottom. Tighten the bolts securely.
  3. Please note: Your license plate transponder should be attached to the center of the front bumper, even if your license plate is in a different location.

Are there any instances when I should not use my transponder?

Yes. You should not use your E-ZPass transponder:

  • If you reported your transponder lost or stolen but later find it.
  • If you have an insufficient toll balance in your account.
  • If you use a different type of vehicle than noted on your account and you have not advised the Customer Service Center of the vehicle change. At these times, it is wisest to use the silver “read prevention” bag provided with the transponder to prevent possible usage violations and potential associated fees.
